David Beckham to be knighted
David Beckham to be knighted - and made a King, Queen, Rook and Bishop
England’s goal scoring hero, David Beckham is set to be knighted, as part
of the ‘Official Manchester United Champions’ Chess Set that hits UK
stores next month.
Created and produced by Trademark Toys, the ‘Champions’ Chess Set boasts
five uniquely crafted players from the Manchester United squads that were
victorious in the 1968 and 1999 European Cup Finals.
Beckham is joined by club captain Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, Teddy
Sherringham and Ole Solskjaer, as representatives of the side that
defeated Bayern Munich. Whilst George Best, Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law,
Nobby Stiles and Paddy Crerand make up the 1968 side, victorious against
Benfica.
In addition to traditional chess strategies, like any good soccer manager,
you can now also introduce the squad rotation system. Mounted on
interchangeable bases, two models of each player are included, allowing
you to switch the team around. This also solves the problem over who will
be queen!
The playing area also has a classic football feel. The traditional black
and white squares have been replaced by two shades of green and the board
also features pitch markings and a full surround. Trademark Toys will also
be introducing additional players from both squads next year.
