I used to live in Pompano Beach and frequented many of the Irish / Scottish / British pubs in the area particularly the Harp & Piper and The Hill. I am looking to catch up with my friend Senga Doran from Glasgow. She may have something to do with the George & Dragon these days. I am not sure.  She is well known in the area so perhaps if you know of her and how to  reach her you could pass my email on. Much appreciated. I am currently living in Glasgow. Thanks, Jarna Fugere (formerly Burns)

Hi all, My name is Kerry Postel and I am British. I moved here 14 months ago to marry my American man!!
I am looking to meet more British people in the Central Florida area for social purposes but also to offer my assistance for people buying homes in the Central Florida area that want a home security system. I work for ADT Fire & Security and I know that British people sometimes prefer to deal with a British person. I would like to be a contact for British people who are buying homes here and wanting to protect their family, possessions and investment.

Hello my name is Nathan I am currently working in TV on Coronation Street in Manchester, England and desperately seek to live and work in Florida but find it impossible, I have searched for everything I can to help me to work and Live in Florida but to no joy. I have been going to Orlando every year since I was 15 years old (13 years in total) and love it so much I even worked at the Walt Disney World, UK Pavilion in Epcot for a year in 2001, which I loved so much and would have stayed if it wasn't for all the legal visa stuff. What I am looking for is a way into the country to work and live  legally, I am prepared to work doing anything which gives me legal status, I have accommodation in Kissimmee, which is a villa we own, but now want to give up Britain for Florida. I am very hard working and have various skills to my name from Advanced IT skills to TV production and Radio Presenting, I have even presented radio with the Monsters of the Midday on Real Radio 104.1 as well as Disney Radio and Universal Radio. So if you are looking for someone who is 110% committed and hard working, who wont let you down, then you wont be disappointed in me, all I ask is if anyone can help me achieve my goal of living in Florida. I am 28 years old, healthy, have lived the Florida life for a year so know what to expect. Any help would be so much appreciated, and I will be forever in debt to you should you make my dream a reality. I am easily contacted on 011 44 07734082701 any time of the day or you can email me nwressell@hotmail.com
I look forward to hearing from you.

I am an American living in Manchester UK for the past 12 years. My wife is British, as are two out of three of my children. My oldest daughter was born in America and has an American passport. We may be interested in relocating to central Florida, however, my three daughters do exceptionally well at school and ideally I would not want to spoil that. Are there any schools specifically for British children? If there was, that could change our train of thought about emigrating. Any comments or help would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi there,

Please can you help!!! My husband is going for his pilot's license and we are having to move over to Daytona. As we have never done anything like this before, I am very worried and probably a little bit scared. On the job front, it is probably the best thing my husband can do and I suppose as a wife I have to support him in some way, but the problem I am facing with myself is that I have 2 kids, one aged 5 and the other aged 18 months. My baby will adjust no problem, but my daughter has recently started school for the first time and it has taken her a little while to adjust. I am afraid that if I take her out of school and move everyone over there, we (not my husband) is going to find it really difficult. What I am trying to establish and if anyone can give me a little bit of re-assurance is that what is it really like to live over there. Is the school's good, way of life etc. What about living expenses, is it much cheaper over there and how long has it been to really adjust. Is there any sort of ex-pat communities/social gatherings etc with people who have had to do this before. Or if anyone else's husband has done their pilot license. I know that I am not the first and probably won't be the last, but if anyone can reply and ease my mind a little. Maybe give me a bit of advice on what to do and what not to do.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Many thanks,

Sharon McFaddon

We have some money to use or invest, but would like information regarding

important "need to know" information.
I would really welcome some expert, impartial advice and guidance.
It would also be nice to here from any British business owners, maybe with
a view to talk about the possibilities of employment etc.
We await your valued responses.

Hello There,
am living “The American Dream” in South Florida. I want to inform anyone
who wants to be adventurous enough to take the plunge for a new life over
here. And give you the pros and the cons of living in Florida.
Pro: Beautiful weather
Con: Hurricane season from Jul-Sept
Pro: food is fresh and plentiful!!
Con: Need to have self-control!!
Pro: People are really friendly and talkative.
Con: there is no con to this pro ;)
Pro: Have top of the range cars and trucks that will make anyone’s mouth
water! Petrol prices are less than $2 a gallon!!!  That’s roughly 1.10
pounds for you!
Con: We paid roughly 300 pounds for 1 Car, insurance in UK, however here
it's almost ...$2500!! That’s roughly 1388 pounds annually (but that’s only
for the first 3 years though)
Pro: Employers normally cover medical insurance partly, this means not
having to wait too long to be treated, for either minor or major treatment.
Con: If you don’t have medical insurance, be prepared to fly back to the
UK.
I could go on and on but I would like to hear a response from anyone who
has more questions. To finish off on a positive note, I don't ever regret
leaving the UK and recommend it to anyone!

We are keen to hear from fellow Brits who have made the move to Florida,

We would be grateful to receive any information about this process.

coming to film with the ex-pat community in Florida. We are keen to hear
from anyone who has had an experience of moving to Florida, or buying a
second home there, who thinks their story might be a good lesson to others. What are the pitfalls to watch out for? What sort of difficulties do you come up against? Do you have to prepare yourself for some home-sickness, hard times as well as good? Have you had legal problems, either with your property or employment? Did you want to return to Britain, or maybe you are in the process of doing so? Maybe you are reading this from Britain and have given up on your American dream? If so, please get in touch at the above address.
Many thanks,

Hi,

My parents and I are planning to move to Florida in the future. we have submitted the relevant paperwork to the Immigration Office for Residency Visas and are slowly churning through all the details of preparation.
However, what we really need is to talk to someone who is already living in the US who came from the UK. There are so many questions that are not covered in the mountains of paperwork.
My parents are planning to retire in Florida and I intend to buy 2 properties, one in which to live and one to rent out as a holiday home.
Is there anyone out there across the ether who would be kind enough to share some time with us to talk about the negatives of living in Florida?
 Waiting in anticipation. Thank you

The good news is that I am coming on holiday with my family next week. The bad news is that I'm not sure where I can watch the cup final. I am staying on Siesta Key near Sarasota. Does anyone know if Captain Curt's or any other local bar is showing it live.
During our visit we hope to be looking at businesses to purchase that will
provide E2 visas. If anyone who has undergone this process would like to
meet up for a meal or drink my wife and I would be delighted.
Alternatively if anyone knows of a property management or boat rental
business that is or coming up for sale please let me know.
Hope to hear before I leave next Wed

Hi Sunnybrits

I moved to Orlando 6 weeks ago with my husband and children, Victoria 13 and Alex 9 and would love to meet other British families with children around the same ages. I am not working at present, and though the children have settled into school well, they have not made friends with other kids outside of school, which may make the summer hols very, very long !!!!
I look forward to hearing from anyone. I'm living in Altamonte Springs but have the luxury of a car and am happy to travel.

Meg Douglas
Weemeggie@aol.com

Can anyone help?  My husband and I are seriously thinking of buying a new build property in the Kissimmee area to become snowbirds in the future but to get a toe in the market over there before it goes beyond our reach.
Our problem is that we don't know anyone who has done this, and although I have received packages from companies who "hold your hand" through the processes and have agents over here and over there, and who do letting and management services for you, they all sound very nice and helpful so it is like wearing a blindfold through a maze!
Can anyone suggest good builders, real estate companies with agents in both countries etc. or equally important, those to avoid?
Thank you to anyone who takes the trouble to help.

Hello,
My husband (and 2 children) are seriously considering a permanent move to the USA - Florida seems to be the most likely.  We are thinking of buying or buying into a business.  We have both been in the hospitality industry running/managing large busy pubs.
My husband is now in the printing industry but has done electrical work, sales and engineering in the past.  His skills are very much on the practical side.  I however are more suited to administration but I have found my ideal job and I work as an IT advisor for a local university. If anyone could give us some sound advice/help in seeking a new life we would be very grateful.  The E-2 business visa is a minefield and we really are not sure where to start.  Thank you.

We are intending to buy a property in the Naples/Ft Myers/Cape Coral area this summer, for long term stays.  We would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done something similar.  We need info on things like car purchase,
insurance & driving licenses, property insurance, and any info about renting the property out while we are not there.  Really we want to know about all the small things that we might not have thought about yet.
Any information would be much appreciated.

My husband and I have mixed emotions leaving NJ for sunny Florida and I mostly because of my extensive English Gardens
http://www.pegeen.com/tudor-home-for-sale.html
WE are most interested in finding a garden group or something that can help us plant as close to what we can down in Central Florida so we don't miss those things we love so much.
Do you know of a professional or amateur gardener who would love to get their hands dirty?
Any trips to the Chelsea Garden Show?

I am a qualified electrician in Britain, with an apprenticeship and all
the relevant skills in the domestic, commercial, and industrial electrical installations. I also have an HNC in Electrical Engineering, which means that I am able to currently work as a plant maintenance electrician for a British plasterboard manufacturer. I want to immigrate to Florida with my wife and child but am unsure if my qualifications mean anything in the US?
Can you help?
